Collision in Heavy Fog
While functioning as a convoy escort during a North Atlantic transit in dense fog, Buck was hit by a merchant ship in the convoy. The impact penetrated broke the keel of Buck and 7 crewmen were lost. Her starboard propeller was damaged beyond repair and her port propeller was lost when her fantail broke off from the rest of the ship.
