U-Boat Attack near Cristobal
The Tanker Elizabeth Kellogg was torpedoed by U-526 near the Panama Canal while en route to Guatamala. Struck amidships, the explosion caused massive flames. The ship was at full speed with a hard left rudder at the time of the explosion and ran in circles for over 36 hours. ... There were 38 survivors. The Captain and Deck Officers had all been killed as a result of the explosion.
