Submarine Attack off Oregon Coast
SS Larry Doheny was torpedoed by submarine I-25 While en route to Portland, Oregon with 66,000 barrels of fuel oil. The explosion destroyed the steering gear and caused #2 and #3 tanks to burst into flames. The ensuing fire and fumes prevented a distress call from being sent. Survivors were picked-up the next morning by USS Coos Bay (AVP-25)
