U-Boat Attack Near Trinidad
The Freighter SS Reuben Tipton was torpedoed by U-129 while en route from Ceylon to New York. The initial attack damaged the ship, however after a distress call was sent, the master got underway at 3 knots. A few hours later, two more torpedoes struck the ship sinking her in two minutes. Two suvivors were picked-up by a Navy PBM on October 25th. The other 49 survivors were rescued by a British Motor Torpedo Boat a day later.
