The Freighter SS Hastings was torpedoed by U-186 in the North Atlantic while in return convoy to New York. The torpedo strike on the port side caused the engione room to flood and destroyed the steering gear. The ship sank in seven minutes. ... Survivors were picked-up by HMCS Chiliwack (K-131).
