Air Attack off Solomon Islands
LST-448 was assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific theater and participated in the consolidation of the southern Solomons, June 1943, and the Vella Lavella occupation, October 1943. While operating off the Solomon Islands Japanese aircraft bombed and severely damaged LST 448. Nineteen of her men perished in the attack. LST 448 sank from the damages sustained in the bombing attack. She was struck from the Naval Register, 26 October 1943.
