Was honorably discharged from the last merchant ship he served on, the SS Maunalei. He served on 19 merchant ships between Mar 1937 - Dec 1941.
Interesting side note: Two of the ships he served on, SS Lahaina (Jul - Aug 1941) and SS Manini (Aug - Nov 1941), were later torpedoed and sunk by Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) submarines, I-9 on 12/11/41 and I-75 on 12/17/41, respectively.
