SERVICE MEMORIES

My father, Carlos Jose Lopez, served in both World War II and the Korean War.  He was a Hospital Corpsman during his duty with the United States Navy.  He also served the people of Samoa providing healthcare and medical assistance for two years.  While at the U of Chicago Law School he changed his first and middle names from Carlos Jose to Charles Joseph.  When I was born he added, "Sr", to his name, I'm "Jr"  My sister Susan Wilma Lopez was born in 1953 in Chicago and is a Lutheran School principal and teacher.  I was born in 1948 in Chicago, I am a Lutheran pastor, spiritual director, pastoral counselor and now a hospice chaplain.  Both father & mother (Wilma Pauline Steinhauer, died March 16, 2009) are buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.  My paternal grandfather, Harry Lopez, is also buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery near the US flag.  Mom and Dad are buried near a big oak tree!  The Lopez family migration route is from Spain (outside of Madrid) to Havana, Cuba, to Ocala, Florida, to Montgomery, Alabama, to Chicago, Illinois where my sister and I were born.   May Dad and Mom rest in God's peace.
