The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Pharmacist's Mate Second Class William B. Greer, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession in action at Blanc Mont Ridge, from October 6 to 10, 1918. with serving as a Corpsman with the Third Battalion, Fifth Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces Pharmacist's Mate Second Class Greer volunteered to go forward to direct bearers to advance dressing station over ground covered by terrific fire, returned to the dressing station and dressed the wounded regardless of bombardment and firing from enemy airplanes.
