SERVICE MEMORIES

Excerpts from obituary published in San Diego Union-Tribune on 8/30/2015:

Donald Everett Alford passed away peacefully in his home on August 16, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer.  He was born in San Diego, California, on April 1, 1927.  Donald graduated from La Jolla High School, class of 1945, and proudly served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a Fireman Controlman Second Class on the U.S.S. MEDUSA.  He later worked for the Naval Undersea Research and Development Center in San Diego as a Physical Science Technician making many trips to the Arctic.

Don worked in the automotive industry as well and volunteered for 20 years at the San Diego Automotive Museum, co-founding the restoration team.  He loved spending time with his family and friends and was always working on a project in his garage or backyard garden.  Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, two daughters, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Don was preceded in death by his daughter.  He has been buried at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
