Excerpts from obituary published in San Diego Union-Tribune on 3/18/2016:
Robert Fred Greenwald was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on February 17, 1921, the third of four children. Bob lived in the St. Louis area until he joined the Marine Corps in 1942. He served in the South Pacific during World War II. He is an Okinawa and Guadalcanal survivor and proudly attended Guadalcanal reunions throughout the years. Bob met his beautiful wife at Lutheran Social Services while he was at boot camp in California. After the war he moved to California and they were married on July 17, 1946. They were married for 63 years until his wife’s passing in 2009.
Bob worked as an auto mechanic for over 30 years, owning his own repair shop at the end of his career. He was active at Pilgrim Lutheran Church where he served in many positions over the years. In addition to Bob's passion for his church and family, he loved to fish, camp, hike, garden, and travel, visiting all fifty states throughout his lifetime. As Bob joins his wife, he is still looking for just the right fishing hole.
Your love and care showed through your works have been an example to all. God is laying His hands on you saying "well done good and faithful servant." Semper Fi.
