Excerpts from obituary published in San Diego Union-Tribune on 2/21/2021:
Alan G. Fischer was born October 23, 1946, in Paterson, New Jersey. He was a graduate of St. Benedicts Prep. in Newark, New Jersey, and Villanova University. Alan served as a Navy combat pilot in Vietnam after which he flew for American Airlines for 32 years. During service in Vietnam, Alan kept a journal of his low-level arduous and dangerous A-6 Intruder combat missions flown at night over North Vietnam. In 2018 he published “The Death Mist” which describes in detail these harrowing combat missions. His book has been described as a powerful and impactful story of trust, faith, teamwork, and dedication which were embodied in a spiritual realm of life and action. Alan died on February 7, 2021, survived by his wife, four children, and four grandchildren.
