U-Boat Attack in the Barents Sea
The Liberty Ship SS Penelope Barker was torpedoed by U-278 while en route with convoy to Murmansk, Russia. The ship sank in ten minutes. The Armed Guard Officer and a British Doctor were lost while below attempting to assist trapped seamen. ... Survivors were picked-up by HMS Savage (G-20).
