U-Boat Attack en route to Ceylon
The Liberty Ship SS peter Sylvester was torpedoed by U-862 in the Indian Ocean while en route alone from Austrailia to Ceylon. The U-Boat launched a total of six torpedoes at the ship with the final two splitting the ship in two. ... Eight survivors were rescued by SS Cape Edmont on February 8, 62 survivors were rescued by USS Corpus Christi on February 13, 20 survivors were rescued by HMS Activity on February 20 and 15 were picked-up by USS Rock on March 9.
