U-Boat Attack in the Atlantic
SS Scapa Flow was torpedoed by U-134 while en route to Philadelphia via Trinidad. The ship was struck by two torpedoes which seemed to cause the bottom to fall out as she settled below the water in less than a minute. ... Although the four wooden lifeboats broke up as they hit the water, survivors were able to use four rafts which had surfaced from the ship as well as a metal lifeboat aquired from the SS John Carter Rose.
