Trout

Ship Designation:
SS-202
Date Lost:
Tuesday, February 29, 1944
Lost in the East China Sea
Trout departed Midway Island after fueling on February 16, with plans to finish her patrol and return to Midway on April 7. Nothing further was known of her or her crew of 81. ... Post-war analysis of Japanese records revealed that Sakito Maru was sunk and another ship damaged on February 29 1944 in Trout’s operating area. Since there was no other submarine in the area, it is assumed that Trout was engaged on that date but, if so, she made no report of the action. It is highly probable that she was lost after making the attack.
