On March 19, 1945, while headed for strikes on airfields and naval bases in Japan, Wasp received a bomb hit that pierced the flight and hanger decks and exploded in a compartment below. ... It was her only major injury of the war. ... She remained in action for several more days before steaming to the U.S. for repairs.
