Air Attack at Lingayen Gulf
Acting as a shore bombardment and beach reconnaissance vessel at the Lingayen Gulf, Luzon, landings Belknap came under attack. She trained all her guns on an attacking suicide plane which crashed into Belknap’s number two stack. ... This crippled her engines, killed 38 men and wounded 49. ... Belknap remained at Lingayen making emergency repairs until January 18.
