CMDCM (AW/SW) Dwight S. Clarke, USN (Retired)

Command Master Chief

Command Master Chief Dwight S. Clarke was born and raised in Jamaica, West Indies and migrated to Queens New York in 1987. He joined the Navy in August 1992 and completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida.  He reported to his initial job training where he successfully completed the aviation apprenticeship course before reporting to the fleet.

He reported to his first shipboard assignment aboard USS Guam (LPH 9) in 1992 where he qualified as a fly petty officer and was advanced to third and second class petty officer. He then reported to the USS Nassau (LHA 4) in 1997 where he was once again assigned to the flight deck as the fly 2 petty officer.

In 2002 he reported to the USS George Washington (CV 73) and made multiple deployments to the Persian Gulf in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. During this tour he was advanced to chief petty officer.  In 2006 he reported aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) stationed in Yokosuka, Japan where he served in V1 division as flight deck chief and in V3 as the hangar deck Leading Chief Petty Officer (LCPO). He then returned to the USS George Washington (CVN 73) in 2011 as V3 Division LCPO and subsequently selected for advancement to senior chief petty officer.

Master Chief Clarke’s shore assignments includes Naval Air Station Oceana, Air Detachment Norfolk in 1999 where he served as Leading Petty Officer (LPO) and Naval District Washington where he served as LCPO for the Transient Personnel Department (TPU).

While stationed aboard George Washington, he was selected for the command senior chief program and in 2014 went on to serve as the top enlisted for VX-20 at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. During this tour he was selected to master chief petty officer and went on to serve as the Command Master Chief (CMC) for VAQ-130 where he made a campaign deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. In June 2019, he was selected as the first billeted CMC to serve as the top enlisted at Naval Ship Repair Facility, and Japan Regional Maintenance Center at Fleet Activities, Yokosuka.

Command Master Chief Clarke is a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) and the Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat (CMC/COB) course. He earned his associate's degree in general studies from Central Texas College and a bachelor’s degree in management, graduating cum laude from the University of Maryland, Global Campus.

His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal (seven awards), and various campaign, unit, and service awards.
