U-Boat Attack in North Atlantic
El Lago was torpedoed by U-615 and U-607 while en route From Reykjavik, Iceland to New York. The ship had slowed due to a storm with heavy seas and hurricane winds. The torpedoes struck amidships splitting El Lago and sinking both sections in less than a minute. The Master and 1st Engineer of El Lago were taken prisoner, the rest of the crew were left to the elements. No survivors were ever found.
