Awarded for actions during the Dominican Republic Occupation
The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Lieutenant James Patrick Lannon, United States Navy, for extraordinary heroism in battle during the engagement of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 22 April 1914. Lieutenant Lannon assisted a wounded man under heavy fire, and after returning to his battalion was himself desperately wounded.
