John Uhler "Jack" Lemmon was the only child of Mildred Burgess LaRue (nee Noel) and John Uhler Lemmon, Jr.   He was born in an elevator at the hospital in Newton, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. Jack attended elementary school in Newton and secondary in Weston, Massachusetts.  He then attended Phillips Academy and Harvard University where he was in the Naval Reserve ROTC and then the V-12 Program . The V-12 Navy College Training Program was designed to supplement the force of commissioned officers in the United States Navy during World War II. Between July 1, 1943, and June 30, 1946, more than 125,000 men were enrolled in the V-12 program in 131 colleges and universities.  During World War II Jack was stationed on an aircraft carrier for a time as an Ensign.  He returned to Harvard after the war and finished his degree in 1947.  A Roman Catholic, Jack was married twice.  With his first wife, the actress, Cynthia Stone, he had a son, Chris Lemmon in 1954.. With his  second wife, the actress Felicia Farr, he had a daughter, Courtney, who born in 1966.    Jack died on June 27, 2001.
