Battle of Santa Cruz
Battle of Santa Cruz, Enterprise aircraft located and engaged a large Japanese force comprised of carriers, battleships and cruisers. Japanese countered with an attack on US forces. Enterprise was hit twice by bombs that killed 44 and wounded 75. Despite serious damage she was able to continue her mission and besides recovering her own aircraft, she managed to recover a large number of aircraft from the USS Hornet (CV 8 ) which had suffered major damage during the Japanese attack.
