U-Boat Attack East of Trinidad
Two torpedoes from U-201 struck the John Carter Rose while enroute to Sierra Leone. Carrying 26,000 drums of gasoline, a fire from the initial attack spread quickly forcing the crew to abandon ship. The three lifeboats with 48 survivors were recoverded two days later.
