U-Boat Attack off coast of Florida
The Tanker SS Pan Massachusetts was torpedoed by U-128 about 20 miles of the Cape Canaveral, Florida while en route from Texas to New York. The ship was struck by two torpedoes . The explosion caused a shower of flaming gasoline to cover the ship and water. The flames burned the lifeboats and many of the crew attempted escape by swimming under the flames covering the surface of the water. Many never came up. ...
