Awarded for actions during the Dominican Republic Occupation
 

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Chief Gunner Robert Semple, United States Navy, for meritorious service under fire on the occasion of the landing of the American naval forces at Vera Cruz, Mexico, on 21 April 1914. Chief Gunner Semple was then attached to the U.S.S. Florida as a Chief Turret Captain.
