U-Boat Attack off Florida
The Tanker SS Republic was torpedoed by U-504 while about three miles off Jupiter Inlet, Florida while en route to Port Arthur, Texas. The shipw as struck by two torpedoes. The tanker grounded on reefs, then broke up and disappeared on February 23. The majority of the survivors rowed ashore. Seven other survivors were picked-up by SS Missouri.
