U-Boat Attack off Cape Hatteras
The Collier SS Venore was torpedoed and shelled by U-66 near Cape Hatteras North Carolina. Venore sank shortly after being struck by a torpedo on the port side. Two of the life boats were lost when deployed while the ship was at full speed. ... Survivors were picked up by SS Tennessee and MS Australia.
