U-Boat Attack near Delaware River
The Tanker W.L. Steed was attacked by U-103 about 90 miles from the mouth of the Deleware River. The torpedo strike set the cargo afire and caused the bow to to settle. The U-Boat later surfaced to finish the job by shelling the tanker. ..The four lifeboats from W.L. Steed were subjected terrible storm and cold. ...
