In August 1942 a photograph was taken at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Texas, showing AOM3 Jesse Rhodes Waller as he prepared to install a .30-calibre machine gun in a gun blister of a PBY Catalina flying boat. Historical records are scarce concerning Waller but reflect he enlisted in the Navy on October 13, 1936 in Macon, Georgia, and served aboard two ships during World War II. He reportedly died on September 16, 1983 and is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama.
