Excerpts from obiruary published in San Diego Union-Tribune on 8/26/2016:

William B. “Willie” Williams, a 58-year resident of California, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2016.  He was born in Lacona, Iowa, on June 14, 1931.  Willie proudly served 21-years in the U.S. Navy as a Aviation Boatswain Mate Handler, retiring in 1970, having served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.  Upon retirement from the Navy he obtained a position as a Federal Firefighter with the Department of the Navy, achieving the rank of Captain before retiring from his second career in 1990.  Being of service was important to Willie and he soon became a member of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Senior Volunteer Patrol in Imperial Beach, becoming a member of its first graduating class in January 1994 and serving his community for 14-years.  He was an active member of the Fleet Reserve, Imperial Beach Chapter.  His ashes will be interred next to his wife, who died in 2009, at Fort Rosecrans National in San Diego.
